Jim Leber (Biography)

Born James Andrew Leber, in Memphis, Tennessee Son to a Lutheran Minister for the Deaf. Jim grew up on that 70's power pop rock sound. The Monkees, The Ohio Players, Neil Diamond, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, The Doobie Brothers, The Wings, The Carpenters, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, and Journey. Jim discovered he could play piano by ear and taught himself to play by spinning vinyl records of his favorite artists. At the age of 12 he began a journey into song writing, and playing in and out of various bands. Jim bored quickly of playing only piano and quickly versed himself in all of the instruments, from drums, to guitars, to bass, to accordion. At the age of 19, headed off to Hollywood to pursue his dreams as a songwriter, artist, and musician. In 1998 Jim co-composed the theme song for Nickelodeon's "Sponge Bob Squarepants". In 1999 Jim embarked on a series of writing sessions would last until 2002 with famous Television Celebrity / Rapper / Artist Nick Cannon. In 2003 Jim began the "Vinyl Candy" project which included a crew of long time friends and collaborators, that garnished much underground success throughout the world. In 2006 and 2007 Jim composed music scores for famed Architect Frank Gehry on both the Brooklyn Arena, and Guggenheim Abu Dahbi projects. In addition to song writing / producing, Jim's roles in Vinyl Candy included Producing / Songsmith / Creative Artist / Guitarist / Keyboardist.
